Stop Debt Collector Harassment in Connecticut
Kimmel & Silverman provides legal services to consumers in Connecticut who have been harassed by debt collectors.
Connecticut Debt Harassment Law
Connecticut state laws expand the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) by including protections against abusive behavior by not only third party debt collectors, but by the creditors as well. Citizens of Connecticut can use the FDCPA and their own state laws to put an end to illegal collection methods.
Connecticut and the FDCPA
The FDCPA was passed in 1978 to protect consumers nationwide from abuse and deception at the hands of debt collectors. The Act prohibits debt collectors from performing abusive and deceptive practices including:
- Contacting the debtor at unusual times or places, including early in the morning or late at night.
- Contacting debtors at work after they have told the debt collector their employer does not allow personal calls.
- Contacting debtors who have already expressed that they are being represented by an attorney.
